PubBlog
1. The Kensington - local pub right around the corner. Very good fish and chips and decent hamburgers. John found one of his favorite beers: a hand pumped London Pride Cask Ale. I stuck with good old Stella.
2. Edwards - in Hammersmith; a few stops west on the tube. Fun area. We stopped in for lunch and had Jackets (baked potatoes). We were craving soup because it was so cold out but had a hard time finding any. The baked potato hit the spot.
3. Crown and Sceptre - this is practically across the street from our apartment. We went for a pint and some dinner. Oddly enough, they have great Mexican food (as well as traditional pub fare). Apparently the chef is Mexican. We opted to try the Mexican food and it was fantastic. We will likely go back.
4. Latymer’s - pleasant little pub in Hammersmith. They apparently have excellent Thai food but we just stopped in for a beer. It was just before 4pm on a Friday and there seemed to be quite a few regulars in there. Interior reminded me of a traditional old pub. Very friendly staff.
5. City Bar - John went here after work one night. Had a few pints of Guinness. Said it was in a really cool area of town - financial district.
6. Doggett’s - on the south bank of the river Thames. It is a four-tiered pub. We ate lunch there and had a few beers. Quite crowded at lunch. They were understaffed and one guy seemed to be working the bar, taking food orders and running food but you wouldn’t have known. He was very cordial and laid back.
7. The Swan - on the edge of Kensington Gardens. Stopped in for lunch. They were out of a lot of dishes, which was strange, but it was a Sunday and some pubs don’t even serve food on Sunday so we didn’t complain. We had grilled chicken sandwiches. Good. John had a Cask Ale IPA (India Pale Ale) which was quite flavorful but he said he probably would not order it again. I had……a Stella. Surprise, I know.
8. The Green King - John went here for lunch one day while at work. He had a pint of Guinness and the best bangers and mash he’s had.
9. Dirty Dick’s Pub - John went to this pub for lunch while working one day. He had fish and chips and said it was not too good. In fact, he couldn’t finish it. Guess we won’t be going back there. With a name like that….go figure.
