My favorite boy
Jack is 18 months old. I can hardly believe it. He is turning in to such a little boy. As I write this, he is sitting on the couch, drinking his apple juice and enjoying a snack of pretzel sticks while watching some afternoon cartoons. He is just so darn adorable.Every now and then he says “mommy?” just for me to peer around the screen of my computer to make eye contact with him. Then a sly little smirk comes to his face and his eyes smile, saying “Just making sure you know I’m still here”. He is my favorite boy. This is such a fun age to explore with him. Every day there is a new discovery as he is becoming more familiar and comfortable with this world. Still cautious, he clings to my leg as we walk in to story time at the local library. In just minutes, he is on the floor next to other children laughing and smiling. He sings to himself in the car just to practice making noise with his voice. He points to objects and does his best to call them by name. Cognitive growth is just spectacular to witness. And here we are about to embark on this journey again. As my body slowly changes and we anticipate the arrival of baby number two, I wonder how I could ever love another child like I love Jack. It actually worries me sometimes. However, I just have to remind myself that just as my heart grew beyond belief when Jack was born, it will only expand even further. We are filled with excitement knowing that we will have another baby to love; a sibling for Jack to forever cherish. I keep telling Jack he is my favorite boy. Come July, I might not be able to say that anymore….which I can’t imagine. I guess we will just have to wait and see. :)
