We survived Paris!!!
Now that I have vented about our crappy day yesterday, I am over it and I will tell you what we actually accomplished yesterday…quite a bit. We began by going to Museum d’Orsay. It is located in what used to be a train station. The entire roof is a glass dome so natural light just pours inside making it a unique space for such great works of art. Much to our surprise, there was a temporary Van Gogh exhibit taking place. We were able to view some of the mad man’s crazy masterpieces, including several of his self portraits. Incredible really. John and I are both partial to Monet’s later work and we were thrilled to be able to see so many in person. I’m not certain if D’Orsay houses the most Monet pieces of any museum but they definitely have a lot.
From here, we ran in to bad weather, could not find any restaurant that could accommodate us with Jack and ended up feeding him a bottle on the steps in the metro station (picture to come!). Hey, at least HE got lunch. We were about to throw in the towel but opted to take the tube to Notre Dame since it was so close. Smart move. The sky turned blue, Notre Dame was cold and dark yet breathtakingly sanctified and John got some great photos (they are coming….I promise). After such a long day we ordered room service, fed Jack and called it a night. Oh, and we watched part of Amelie…one of our favorite movies, set in France. It seemed appropriate.
We went to bed with intentions of going to Versailles today. However, we both woke up singing a different tune. Over the past 2 1/2 days we have visited the Louvre, Museum d’Orsay, Notre Dame, the Eiffel Tower and the Arch de Triumph. We just wanted to relax. So we walked up the Champs Elysees, found a sidewalk table at a cafe, drank beer and people watched for about 2 hours. It was fabulous! Probably the best part of our Paris excursion. After a quick lunch, we hopped the train back to London. Jack is truly happy to be back here. We really think that he picked up on the anti-baby vibe in France. He is rather astute. So we are back in our flat in London and loving it! We only have a few days left here (sniff sniff) so we plan to make the best of it. Tune in tomorrow for more tales of our European expedition…….
